Overview

Purpose. Builds quick collaboration and shared laughter under a light time pressure.

When to use. Early in a session, especially with a group that doesn't know each other well yet.

Best for. Small teams, in person.

Facilitator preparation

  • Gather: a camera or phone per team.
  • Prepare 2–3 fun photo themes in advance, for example “everyone wearing a hat” or “everyone holding something purple.”

Room setup. Cluster seating into small islands of 3–6 people, spaced enough apart that groups don't overhear each other.

Virtual setup. This works best in person. If you must run it virtually, have teams create a themed collage of individual photos instead of one group shot.

Hybrid setup. Give remote participants the same collage option while in-room teams take a group photo.

Materials. A camera/phone

How to Conduct

  1. Split participants into small teams.
  2. Announce a themed, funny photo challenge, for example “everyone wearing a hat” or “everyone holding something purple.”
  3. Give teams a short time limit to gather items and pose for their photo.
  4. Collect and share the photos with the whole group, either on screen or printed.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE GROUP

  • Expect a little shyness in the first 30 seconds, followed by a quick warm-up once one or two people go first.

After the activity
